Position: Software Development Engineer

Reporting to: Vice President Product Development

Summary

The Software Development Engineer (SDE) is the person responsible for the design and / or development of software platforms, peripherals, applications or tools.

Essential Job Functions/Expectations:

  • Full responsibility for delivery of products on schedule and to TabletKiosk quality guidelines
  • Full responsibility to deliver products within budget
  • Develop solutions for the development and support of applications, databases, diagnostics, firmware, drivers BIOS, utilities, O/S Images and scripts
  • Participate in the preparation, review and analysis of software requirements and specifications
  • Participate in the creation of design, functional, technical and/or user documentation
  • Develop, test and integrate code for new or existing software
  • Maintain source code revision control
  • Work in a project team to deliver the next generation of x86 mobile platforms
  • Clearly communicate project issues and status
  • Provide constructive and responsive customer service to business partners
  • Understand and communicate industry trends and drive the corporate strategic direction for software and systems, as appropriate
  • Provide strategic direction to the planning, design and architecture of complex systems and software
  • Lead the review and analysis of test strategies for software products and systems
  • Review and analyze design, functional, technical and user documentation
  • Implement software lifecycle and quality assurance systems for departments, projects and products
  • Present accurate project status to executive management
  • Write technical papers (e.g., white papers) that clearly articulate industry and company trends in technology and solutions at either a summary or detailed level
  • Lead the definition collection, analysis of quality metrics appropriate to products and processes
  • Implement cross-functional, process design improvements and re-engineering efforts to reduce and prevent recurring and anticipated defects and problems
  • Lead cross-functional re-engineering efforts that result in significant cost and cycle time savings
  • Lead the cross-functional implementation, integration and deployment of projects and products of significant size and complexity
  • Provide outstanding leadership in relationships with external suppliers
  • Provide technical expertise to sales, marketing, engineering, finance, and manufacturing teams
  • Provide accurate resources, schedule and cost estimations for cross-functional software development and deployment projects of significant complexity

As part of the technical management function, you will be responsible in working with select ODM vendors to manage the product specification, development schedule, meet various deliverables, resolve technical issues, and ensure product meets specification and quality goal.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of related industry experience, preferable in x86 notebook and/or tablet software design
  • Detail-oriented with attention to product quality
  • Versed in use of the appropriate editor, compiler, assembler, debugger, etc. for whatever programming language is expected to be used (C, C++, Java, etc.)
  • Versed in the concept, use of, and selection of revision control software
  • Advanced analytical, problem solving, debugging and fundamental logical skills
  • Understanding of software engineering processes and methodologies
  • Capable of designing the core architecture which other programmer's will design around
  • Able to lecture internal and external groups about a particular technology or design
  • Able to constantly challenge existing practices for improvement
  • Versed in use of MS Word Processor, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel
  • Able to apply Software Lifecycle and Quality Assurance methodologies in a cost-effective manner to bring high-quality products to market on time
  • Detail-oriented with attention to product quality
  • Verbal and written communication
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to perform customer briefings with executives and influence buying decisions
  • Ability to represent selected ODMs in selected levels of negotiation with vendors
  • Ability to manage multiple programs and/or areas simultaneously
  • Understanding of appropriate technologies, vendor products, and competitor's offerings. Ability to analyze options for critical design elements and features and determines optimum selection
  • Insight and skill to effectively manage cultural differences
  • Ability in organizing and managing multiple projects, setting priorities and working independently under aggressive timelines
  • Ability to move and inspire the team to innovate, incorporate, and produce winning designs, concepts, and details
  • Ability to drive cross-functional development efforts through conception, planning, implementation, and sustaining
  • Personal commitment to customer service and follow through
  • Experience working in a decentralized, small start-up
